JAZZ.FM91 is honoured to celebrate International Jazz Day with a special live broadcast from the Long & McQuade Performance Hall at 1 pm on April 30.

This live performance will be led by multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and educator Drew Jurecka, with Canada’s “Sweetheart of Swing” Alex Pangman. They’ll be accompanied by Clark Johnston (bass) and Nathan Hiltz (guitar).

Drew Jurecka is an accomplished violinist who also works frequently on viola, saxophone, clarinet and mandolin. An in-demand soloist, session player and sideman, Drew can be heard frequently in clubs and theatres throughout Canada with his own group or as a part of one of his bands, The Hot Jazz String Quartet and the Hogtown Syncopators. He has played and recorded with Dave Brubeck, Stevie Wonder, Russell DeCarle, Jim Cuddy, Bahamas, Sarah Slean, Ron Sexsmith and many more.

Alex Pangman is a Juno-nominated vocalist who has built a loyal fan base among jazz listeners and dancers alike through her critically acclaimed work with her Alleycats band. She has performed in nightclubs and concert halls across Canada, including three stellar showcases at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

Joining them in the live audience will be music students from Humberview Secondary School in Bolton, Ont. These students are members of the school’s senior jazz orchestra and vocal jazz ensemble. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about jazz on a day that the world is celebrating the music and its history.

Tune in to JAZZ.FM91 on April 30 to join us in celebrating International Jazz Day.
