Montreal-based trumpeter Jacques Kuba Séguin returns with Parfum n°1, an album that explores “the genesis of life.”
It’s the first in the Juno-winning jazz musician’s new cycle of works called La trilogie des odeurs, which examines the power of scent (as well as hearing) to appeal to our subconscious, awakening memories and provoking a wide range of emotions.
Parfum n°1 is inspired by the natural and raw materials that make up perfume and delves into the early years of life with references to childhood, particularly the first meeting between parent and a child.
Listen to the first single Candeur below:
In 2020, Séguin’s previous record Migrations won both a Juno Award and a Félix Award for jazz album of the year.
Over the last 15 years, Séguin has been making a name for himself on the national and international music scene. He has released seven albums; his latest release was the Mikrokosmos EP with Norwegian musicians Jens Fossum, Hermund Nygård, and Anders Aarum.
Here’s the track listing:
- La danse du hasard
- Promesse de souvenirs
- Rencontre au berceau
- Je suis là
