We had the privilege of interviewing Brazilian jazz saxophonist Gaia Wilmer and cellist Jaques Morelenbaum on the latest episode of Cafe Latino with Laura Fernandez as they celebrated the release of their album Trem das Cores. The album is a tribute celebrating Caetano Veloso’s 80th birthday on August 7. Veloso is one of Brazil’s most celebrated singers, composers and activists widely known as one of the founders of the Tropicália movement, a Brazilian artistic movement of the 1960s which merged Brazilian and African rhythms with American and British psychadelic rock.
Gaia Wilmer is an esteemed saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer who started collaborating with Morelenbaum in 2018. Morelenbaum is also a legend in the Brazilian music scene who has appeared on over 800 albums.
