Evan Dalling is a trumpet player from Ottawa who is currently in his final year of his bachelor’s degree in jazz performance at the University of Toronto.

Dalling has been playing trumpet since middle school and began his playing career in high school, where he joined several community big bands including the Ottawa Junior Jazz Band, the Nepean All-City Jazz Band and the Capital Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has also played with top professional Ottawa bands including the Bank Street Bonbons, Los Gringos, the Prime Rib Big Band and the Beeched Wailers.

Upon his arrival in Toronto, Dalling played lead trumpet in the esteemed University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra, with whom he recorded an album titled Embargo, released in 2020. He was also a part of the U of T 12tet.

While at U of T, Dalling has studied with established musicians and professors such as Chase Sanborn, Jim Lewis, Terry Promane, Dave Young and John MacLeod. He has also had the opportunity to work with many well-established groups in the Greater Toronto Area, including the John MacLeod Jazz Orchestra and the Brian Barlow Big Band. He continues to work with local Toronto bands such as the Doghouse Orchestra and the Adema/Manoukas octet and is also a member of My Son the Hurricane, a jazz/funk group based out of St. Catharines.
