Congratulations are in order for pianist, composer, arranger and producer Eddie Bullen who was awarded the Jean Augustine Excellence award on September 7 during the 87th Birthday Celebration of the Honourable Dr. Jean Augustine at the Harbourfront Centre.
The Grenadian-Canadian musician has been a fixture on the Canadian music scene for over 40 years and counting. He’s one of the most celebrated and globally-recognized jazz musicians to come out of Canada and his native country of Grenada. He has produced over 200 albums and has worked with the likes of Maestro Fresh Wes, Deborah Cox, R&B group SWV, Liberty Silver, David Rudder, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Melba Moore and more.
The celebration took place during the 19th annual CaribbeanTales International Film Festival which celebrates the talents of established and emerging filmmakers of Caribbean and African heritage who practice their art across the Caribbean Diaspora worldwide.
“So many of us have been the beneficiaries of Eddie Bullen’s musical talent,” said Dr. Augustine during the awards ceremony covered exclusively by journalist Ron Fanfair. “This award will hold a prominent place in my studio because it means the world to me,” said Bullen in a statement to Fanfair. “It will be the first thing anyone will see when they walk in.”
You can catch Bullen next at the Kensington Market Jazz Festival where he’ll be playing at Supermarket and Toms Suits Store on September 29. You can see the full schedule at kensingtonjazz.com.
