Singer-songwriter Denielle Bassels has released a new song called “Catch Her and She Gone” in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The single is described as a “sassy folk and Island rhythm chanson about a mermaid who captures a pirate ship.”
The Toronto-based artist co-wrote the song with her friend Mike Matheison, and the recording features percussion by Chendy Leon of Sultans of String and vocal harmonies by Meg Contini of The O’Pears.

The song is the latest single from Bassels’ upcoming album Little Bit a’ Love, due out June 2. It’s the followup to her 2017 recording What About Wool Wishbags. Seven of the 11 songs on that album went on to win songwriting awards, with “Cool Cool Water” garnering a grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
