Alexandra Cunningham is a music enthusiast who has recently entered into the world of public radio. A musician cursed to play traditionally non-jazz instruments, Alex is enjoying learning more about jazz up close rather than from afar. With experience in theatre audio and smaller radio projects, Alex is excited to continue finding her place in the audio world and learning as much as she can along the way.

Danny Marks returns with his hit new blues album Back to the Blues. This burgeoning classic from the legendary bluesman and longtime JAZZ.FM91 host brings the listener back to the roots of blues music. Back to the Blues takes Marks’ lived experience of blues music and condensed the best of it into 13 tracks. “The inspiration for Back to the Blues is both a homecoming and a way forward, set to music,” says Marks. “This is for you. My heart is on the line.”

And that heart is easily identifiable throughout the album, but most notably with the song “Please Mister Conductor,” the quietly devastating song drawing on Marks’ deeply personal experience balanced with the classic blues narrative of perseverance and grace.

Back to the Blues holds a truth Marks has carried with him throughout his musical career: “Blues is truth and truth rings out authentically for each of us in our own way.”

Co-produced by Marks himself alongside roots musician and producer Alec Fraser Jr., Back to the Blues is an album produced and created by musicians for musicians. It’s an album that can only be made by someone who has the earned experience and passion for blues music. Back to the Blues is not only bringing you back to blues music, but back to music’s purpose and to help make you feel a little less alone in the world. “Since my first beginnings as a musician until today, good things have happened when I honoured the music, the people, and the stories of our lives,” Marks reflects, “Creating art from adversity is a universal act.”

The album has been well-received and recently took the fourth spot on the Canadian Top 50 Big Blues Chart for July.
