He spans borders and reaps the best of the cultures of two nations inspired by the spirits of creativity in their people and finding influence and essence collectively.
His musical roots are in classical music. Jackson’s cultural heritage is as layered as the nations spanned and his music reflects this. From a suite written to commemorate the 911 attacks on New York City to a piece called Québécité (KAY-beh-SEE-tay) exploring his biracial heritage with an African American father and a Chinese mother to his piece about Pierre Eliot Trudeau called Trudeau: Long March/Shining Path. The lyrics written by the one-time Canadian Poet Laureate, George Elliot Clarke.
About his creative energy artistry the pianist has said: “I consider myself an ‘artistic problem solver,’… I strive to get to the essential conceptual truth… – in an original and supportive way.” As with jazz, writing music for media is… a highly collaborative art form that requires fast thinking, an ability to be open-minded and embrace new directions, and a willingness and even eagerness to work with and be inspired by others.”
D.D. Jackson makes inspirational magic.
