Producer, musician, entrepreneur and educator Corey Butler is set to curate an exciting tribute to one of the most important and influential figures in jazz: Dizzy Gillespie. Butler, the musical director of the Juno Award-winning Toronto Mass Choir, has assembled and all-star lineup of musicians to pay homage to the genre-breaking catalogue of this jazz virtuoso, including the Cuban influences that he introduced to North American audiences in the mid-20th century. The starring role will be filled by Alexis Baro, a Cuban-born trumpeter whose latest album Sandstorm is nominated at this year’s Juno Awards for solo jazz album of the year. Baro has performed on more than 300 recordings and is a Global Music Award winner and multiple National Jazz Awards nominee. The lineup: Thursday, April 4 from 7 to 8 pm Our thank-you gift for a donation of $125 for one seat, or $250 for two seats. A full tax receipt will be issued in February, 2020.
