Catherine Russell has just released a new single in celebration of Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, the proceeds of which will benefit the Jazz Foundation of America.
The Grammy winner sings “I Want to Talk About You,” a song by the famed vocalist and orchestra leader Billy Eckstine.
Listen to the single:
Eckstine composed the song and wrote the lyrics in 1944. He recorded it alongside his 17-piece orchestra — which included such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey and Dexter Gordon — with an arrangement by Tadd Dameron, and released it as a single in 1945. Since then, the tune has been recorded by legends such as John Coltrane, Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald.
Russell’s release of “I Want to Talk About You” follows her 2022 album Send for Me, which earned international praise including a spot on JAZZ.FM91’s list of the top 25 albums of the year.
