The JUNO Awards are making another expansion of their music categories. Earlier this week, the organizers announced the addition of the Latin Music Category while announcing the launch of their submission process.
The brand new category, Latin Music Recording of the Year, aims to celebrating the vibrant and growing contributions of Latin artists to the Canadian music scene. The category will be a crossover category recognizing Latin music across all genres while celebrating Canada’s diversity in sound.
It follows last year’s addition of South Asian music category and 2022’s edit to the Indigenous Music Category to reflect and honour both traditional and contemporary Indigenous artists.
“This new category is a milestone for the Canadian music industry,” said Co-Chair of the category, Martín Añón. “It’s a well-deserved recognition of the incredible talent, diversity, and cultural richness that Latin music brings to the Canadian soundscape. By giving them a place on Canada’s biggest music stage, we’re not only celebrating their artistry, but we are also helping promote all domestic music into one of the fastest growing markets in the world.”
Submissions for the 2026 JUNO Awards open officially on September 22, 2025. The early bird deadline for submissions take place on October 3 followed by the final deadline on November 6.
The 2026 JUNO Awards takes place on Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Hamilton, Ontario at the TD Coliseum.
