A film legend will portray a Canadian legend in a new biopic directed by award-winning American filmmaker Cameron Crowe.

Meryl Streep is set to play Joni Mitchell in a new biopic based on the folk icon’s life. The news was confirmed by music exec Clive Davis during his pre-Grammy bash back in February. News leaked back in 2023 that Crowe and Mitchell were working on a biopic based on her life but the project has been tight-lipped until now. Crowe himself, in an interview last year, mentioned that he had been working on this biopic for over a decade.

Streep will portray the older version of Mitchell in the untitled project while actress Anya Taylor-Jones, best known for her roles in The Witch and The Queen’s Gambit, is rumored to be playing Mitchell in her younger days. Cameron Crowe is an Oscar award-winning director and journalist who has known Mitchell since he profiled her in the Rolling Stone back in 1979. He is best known for films such as Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
