With another JUNO win under her belt for best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, Caity Gyorgy continues to lead the future of Canadian jazz as one of the most hard-working vocalists in the genre today.
This year, she released two duo albums with pianist, composer and creative collaborator Mark Limacher including the latest Caity Gyorgy with Strings, her first orchestral album.
Caity Gyorgy with Strings is Gyorgy’s eighth studio effort overall since her 2019’s EP Caity Gyorgy Quartet. It’s also the third album she’s released in collaboration with Limacher following April’s release of Asking for Trouble, celebrating the music of Broadway songwriter Frank Loesser.
Recorded earlier this Spring over a two-day period at the National Music Centre in Gyorgy’s hometown of Calgary, Caity Gyorgy with Strings is an album of original compositions written by Gyorgy and Limacher and performed alongside a 40 piece studio orchestra.
“Not only has working with Mark been artistically rewarding, but it has changed my perspective regarding what can be achieved with fierce determination and an abandonment of inhibitions,” says Gyorgy.
“This is the kind of work I’ve wanted to do for my entire life,” says Limacher, “And for a large portion of my life, it just seemed like it wasn’t possible. I’m grateful and thrilled that with Caity, I have a collaborator who not only also wants to do that, but seems so perfectly suited to do this kind of project.”
Caity Gyorgy with Strings is available on all streaming platforms. Take a listen to the lead singles “I’ve been Kicking Myself” and “You’ll Learn.”
