The Other Side of Cool with Christopher Ward

Welcome to The Other Side of Cool. Join host Christopher Ward as he hosts a 4-part series on west-coast jazz.

The mid-century brought a whole new feel to jazz and a wave of hot young players and singers delivered the sound to a new audience of jazz fans.

The program will feature The Dave Brubeck Quartet, whose Time Out was the first jazz album to sell a million copies; The Gerry Mulligan Quartet, with the musically gifted and charismatic Chet Baker on trumpet; the Latin jazz of vibraphonist Cal Tjader and more.

The music was both inventive and cool and sounded great with a martini and canapes. And although west-coast jazz was born and had its heyday in California, the music is still loved the world over.

Tune in Saturdays at 2 pm for new episodes or Wednesdays at 11 pm for repeat broadcasts, exclusively on JAZZ.FM91.
