The 3rd annual World of Jazz Festival returns to Downtown Brampton on September 6th & 7th, presented by B-Jazzed.
The festival kicks off on Friday, September 6th in the Rose Theatre featuring the 18-time GRAMMY award-winning Count Basie Orchestra, swinging the night away with their classic arrangements of songs like “Shiny Stockings” , “Lil’ Darlin’”, and tunes from their songbook, which for years made them the accompanying orchestra to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett, as well as instituted their sound as a timeless American standard.
All day, free programming, commences on Saturday, September 7th, where Garden Square plays host to 2 stages, running from 1:30-11:00pm, featuring an eclectic mix of jazz interpretations by some of Canada’s best musicians, as well as local, emerging talent from Brampton. From 1:30-5:00pm, Vivian Lane will host local music vendor Long & McQuade, with its interactive musical instrument demonstration area, as well as a Family Zone, which will feature free activities including face painters, costume character meet and greets, and more. Then from 5:00-9:00pm, the Vivian Lane Community Stage kicks-off, which will showcase student led ensembles and emerging artists. Restaurants such as J.Red & Co., will host ‘Dinner Jazz’ from 6:00-9:00pm and Wendel Clark’s Classic Grill and Bar will host a late-night jam session, a popular, annual tradition, beginning at 11:00pm and extending into the wee hours of the morning. Musicians are encouraged to bring an instrument and jump in with the house band, led by guitarist Frank Adriano.
