The Oscar Peterson International Jazz Festival

The inaugural Oscar Peterson International Jazz Festival will take over the Niagara Region, February 16th – 18th with celebrated jazz artists!

The world’s first and only jazz festival bearing the name of Canada’s greatest jazz artist will honour and celebrate Oscar Peterson’s legacy of excellence. Generating a diverse and vibrant repertoire, the festival will showcase Canadian artists alongside international artists.

Friday, February 16th:

International All-Star “Jazz at the Philharmonic’

Venue: FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, St. Catharines

Opening Night features: Cecile McLorin Salvant, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Green, Michael Dease, Benny Green, Christian McBride and Kenny Washington

Saturday, February 17th:

Celebrating Norman Granz and Jazz at the Philharmonic

Venue: St. Mark’s Anglican Church, NOTL

Screenings Saturday afternoon include the two documentaries produced by Granz: Jammin’ The Blues and Improvisation, and a Jazz at the Philharmonic concert film. Moderating the afternoon will be jazz archivist and Granz biographer, Tad Hershorn, and Jacques Muyal, long time associate of Granz.

Saturday, February 17th:

Inaugural Gala Evening: Double Portrait

Venue: Stratus Vineyards, NOTL

This Gala affair features the piano duo of the Festival’s Artistic Director Renee Rosnes, and pianist Bill Charlap.

Sunday, February 18th:

Canadian Jazz Lions & Canadian Jazz Master Awards

Venue: Stratus Vineyards, NOTL

Concluding the Festival, the grand finale features Canadian artists: Carol Welsman, Kevin Turcotte, Mike Murley, Robi Botos, Dave Young and Jim Doxas in another Jazz at the Philharmonic-style concert. Including the premiere presentation of the newly created Canadian Jazz Master Awards!
