AO Kevin Turcotte
As the trumpet player in the group that was assembled by David Braid for the studio recordings for the film Born to Be Blue, starring Ethan Hawke, Kevin Turcotte channeled the spirit and artistry of Chet Baker. The sound is so sweet you can close your eyes and believe. The channeling went even further as Kevin also played as both Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie in the film.
There is magic in his music making and that work is just some of it. It should come as no surprise he is one of the country’s best. He is a University of Toronto alumnus. He is an educator and his students are the luckiest for it. He has been quoted saying this about the music he plays, “There’s no limit to what you can do with jazz … if you’re a creative musician and want to use your instrument to say something, jazz is really an open book.”
All you have to do is listen to him play and you know exactly what he means.
