SUMMARY:A Jewish Boy’s Christmas @ Old Mill Jazz Lounge
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets Here \nLike a cozy blanket that comforts us on a cold winter night\, Christmas music surrounds us and warms our hearts (at least until Christmas is over). So much of the popular music associated with Christmas was written by Jewish songwriters – White Christmas (Irving Berlin)\, Let It Snow (Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne)\, The Christmas Song (Mel Torme)\, to name a few. Sam Broverman brings the joy of Christmas (and a bit of Hanukah) with Christmas standards\, hilarious parodies and stories behind the music\, leaving you with the understanding that Christmas may also be a little bit Jewish. For over ten years Toronto’s finest jazz musicians along with special guests have joined Sam to present this perennially sold-out heart-warming show. \nPlease be advised this is not a dining and dancing experience\, but rather an entertainment show. \nProudly Sponsored by Andrew Peller Ltd. \nJazz Lounge 2023 Event Schedule \nDinner starts at 6pm\nShow starts at 8pm  \n19+\nCover Charge | $20 + HST Prepaid Entertainment Charge\nFood & Beverage | Minimum $30 Food and Beverage Spend \nOld Mill Toronto\nDining Room Entrance by the Big Red Heart\nwww.oldmilltoronto.com\n21 Old Mill Rd\, Toronto ON M8X 1G5\n416-207-2020 (Dining Room/Shows)\n416-236-2641 x2 (General Inquiries/Weddings/Private Events)

SUMMARY:Joshua Redman at Koerner Hall
DESCRIPTION:Widely revered as the greatest jazz saxophonist of his generation\, Joshua Redman returns following his sold-out Koerner Hall concert last season with a brand new project. \nRedman’s new album where are we marks his first-ever with a vocalist – the mesmerizing Gabrielle Cavassa. Co-winner of the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition\, Cavassa is an enthralling emerging musician whose artistry is as influenced by Amy Winehouse as by Billie Holiday. \nDescribed by Redman as “a meditation on America and the power and importance of place\,” this new project features music that references specific geographical locations in the United States: Bruce Springsteen’s Streets of Philadelphia\, Count Basie’s Going to Chicago\, Rodgers & Hart’s Manhattan\, and John Coltrane’s Alabama\, all interpreted with the improvisational brilliance and melodic invention that is a hallmark of Redman’s artistry. On where are we\, he delivers a challenging and compelling program featuring typically brilliant supporting partners and (in a first for Redman) built around a dynamic vocalist.

SUMMARY:Guilt (A Love Story) @ Tarragon Theatre
DESCRIPTION:An all-new play about pathos; the “unshakable monster that is guilt\,” and the things we’re not supposed to talk about. \nGuilt (A Love Story) is a deep dive into a complex\, uncomfortable\, and highly human feeling. A state of being that most of us\, especially parents\, wrestle with inelegantly. Focusing on Flacks’ personal odyssey Guilt brings the perspective of a self-sacrificing Jewish mother who becomes the instigator of a family’s dissolution. Societal effects\, causes and casualties and the feeling that we have when we’ve profoundly hurt others. This exploration may not pull punches\, but don’t worry\, it’s accompanied by laughs – because how else do we get through anything? \nDiane Flacks returns to Tarragon Theatre with Guilt (A Love Story)\, her fifth one-woman show.

SUMMARY:Los Angeles Master Chorale @ Koerner Hall
DESCRIPTION:Following their widely acclaimed collaboration on Lagrime di San Pietro (which was performed at Koerner Hall in 2020)\, Peter Sellars\, Grant Gershon\, and singers of the Los Angeles Master Chorale reunite with a deeply personal yet uplifting meditation on what it means to say goodbye to those we love. 24 singers will be accompanied by Baroque organ and viol da gamba to create an intimate ceremony of connection across time and space. \nThe luminous music of the Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz serves as the inspiration for this ceremony of remembrance and devotion. Schütz composed the Musikalische Exequien (Music to Accompany a Departure) during the terrible ravages of the 30 Years War\, and it was dedicated to the memory of one of his dearest friends and benefactors. Schütz is widely regarded as the greatest German composer before Bach\, and the Musikalische Exequienwas the first requiem written in the language of the people rather than Latin. The music speaks with both quiet emotion and enormous depth of feeling. \nSung in German with English supertitles.
