SUMMARY:37th Annual Beaches International Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Beaches International Jazz Festival is a month-long music festival held each year in the lakeside Beaches community of Toronto in July. It’s now one of Canada’s largest free jazz festivals with nearly 1\,000\,000 attendees\, throughout its month-long span. \nThe Festival takes place across a number of venues; stage concerts are held in several different parks within the area and also along a two kilometre stretch of the Beach mainstreet during StreetFest – Queen Street East. \nEvery year\, the Festival brings in internationally acclaimed jazz performers while also showcasing local talent\, including “new generation” jazz musicians. The Festival now hires around 1000 artists per annum\, including 50 bands for its “StreetFest” event along Queen Street East. \nThe Festival offers concerts at various locations: the Woodbine Park Main Stage\, Jimmie Simpson Park Main Stage and Big Band Stage. He has worked with a myriad of artists: Daniel Romano\, Kevin Breit\, Marc Jordan\, John McDermott\, John Bon Jovi\, Richie Sambora\, Mariah Carey\, Tom Jones\, Chrissie Hynde\, Olivia Newton-John\, Anne Murray\, Roger Hodgson\, Tom Wilson\, Terra Lightfoot\, Jackie Richardson\, Molly Johnson\, and many more. He is one half of the songwriting/performance duo Dizzy & Fay which has recorded two full length albums\, performs regularly across Canada and has received airplay in Canada and the U.S. He is also the songwriter and founding member of the band Alarm Alarm currently recording a new record. \nSun\, Aug 10\, 2pm – 6pm \n2pm – Bel & Quinn\nMeet Bel and Quinn\, two sisters of Haitian origin who are making their mark on the Canadian music scene. The sisters’ voices combine in perfect harmony to bring their unique music to life. Nicknamed the Soul Sisters\, the duo sings in English\, Creole and French. They have been invited to perform at several festivals including Montreal’s International Festival Nuits d’Afrique\, Québec Jazz en Juin and Haiti en Folie. \n3:15pm – Moneka Arabic Jazz\n“MONEKA ARABIC JAZZ” is a project reflecting Ahmed Moneka’s life and journey in art from Baghdad to Toronto. It showcases melody from his homeland Iraq mixed with African groove and rhythm that he inherited from the Moneka Family. Because his journey brought him now to Toronto\, Ahmed is honoured to share this heritage and traditions with local Canadian musicians. \n4:30pm – Heather Bambrick\nJUNO/ECMA Award-nominated vocalist Heather Bambrick prides herself on being an entertainer through and through – from her skillful\, effortless interaction with audiences\, her humour and strong story-telling ability (part of her Newfoundland heritage)\, to her musicianship and variety of material. This is why her concerts have rightfully been described as “Ella Fitzgerald meets Carol Burnett at a Newfoundland kitchen party.”

DESCRIPTION:André Perugia: A Design Legend Unveiled\nOctober 2025 to April 2027 \nThe Bata Shoe Museum explores the work of one of the most significant and under-researched footwear designers of the 20th century\, André Perugia. A pioneering Italian- French shoe designer\, André Perugia (1893-1977) is known for his architecturally innovative and technically masterful footwear designs. From his first boutique in Nice in the early 1920s\, he revolutionized luxury footwear\, creating shoes for fashion houses like Dior and Schiaparelli\, as well as for celebrity clients including Josephine Baker\, Mistinguette\, and Princess Lillian of Belgium. His work is preserved in major museum collections worldwide. \nThroughout the run of the exhibit\, over 95 examples of the designer’s work dating from the 1920s through the 1960s\, will be featured; shoes from contemporary designers inspired by his vision will also be on display. This exhibition will highlight the historical importance of Perugia’s work\, contextualizing it within the larger framework of fashion across the decades. It will explore some of his most important innovations\, including Perugia’s contribution to the development of the articulated sole and the stiletto heel. \nAndré Perugia is curated by Nishi Bassi and includes objects from the BSM collection\, and generous loans from Musée de la chaussure Romans-sur-Isère and Fondation Azzedine Alaia. \nExhibition Hours: \nMonday-Saturday 10AM-5PM \nSunday 12PM-5PM \nTo learn more\, visit the website.
