SUMMARY:Antonio Sanchez performs Birdman LIVE
DESCRIPTION:Experience the intense and fantastic award-winning film Birdman (Michael Keaton\, Zach Galifianakis\, Edward Norton\, Amy Ryan\, Emma Stone\, Naomi Watts) like never before. \nOne of the world’s most critically acclaimed and in-demand drummers\, Antonio Sanchez\, performs his Grammy-winning drum score from the Golden Globe and Oscar winning film\, live! \nAfter the worldwide success of A. G. Iñarittu’s “Birdman” which won four Academy Awards in 2014 (including Best Picture and Best Director)\, Sanchez has been performing his Grammy winning and Golden Globe nominated original score around the world as the film is projected in its entirety. \nEach performance is completely unique because Sanchez’s original music was improvised almost in its entirety and although the dramatic effect achieved in the film is duplicated\, the organic aspect of the performance requires that the improvisational spirit be left untouched.

SUMMARY:Alex Pangman's Annual Mardi Gras Party
DESCRIPTION:If you’re recording a new EP — and your session musician suddenly warns “we’ve got one more side left\, don’t screw it up!” — you know you have an unconventional project underway. This is the exhilarating and creative scenario Canadian jazz and swing songbird (and JUNO Award nominee) Alex Pangman found herself in for her ambitious and unique special project\, Hot Three\, and its long unprecedented use of blank acetate as a recording medium. \nThat’s right\, direct to 78rpm acetate disc. On her 2017 EP for Justin Time “Alex Pangman’s Hot Three”\, she goes further backwards in time to discover why early jazz recordings have the special sound and energy that they do. In this artistic journey\, and with 3 minutes to cut a tune while the groove was cut in real-time before the musician’s eyes live\, the singer came to understand both the inspiration behind the hot recordings of early jazz\, and also some of the mindset of early recording pioneers\, and the energy it produced. \nAnnual Mardi Gras party featuring Alex Pangman’s Alleycats & Red Hot Ramble happens on March 5! \nDinner reservations guarantees seating. Advance names will be on list at the door. General Admission available\, too

SUMMARY:Tarragon Theatre: New Magic Valley Fun Town
DESCRIPTION:A new play from The Siminovitch Prize winner and Governor General’s Literary Award winner for drama. \nCape Bretoner Dougie hasn’t seen his best childhood pal Allan in twenty-five years\, so it’s no surprise that their reunion is a boisterous night of memories\, laughter\, drinking and dancing. But as evening becomes day\, as the smiles begin to fade and the bottles sit empty\, the old friends revisit other memories\, uncomfortable ones that force them to confront the realities of who — and what — they really are. \nAudience advisory: while full of comedic moments\, this play also touches on sensitive issues such as the aftermath of past trauma. \nRunning time: approximately 90 minutes\, no intermission

SUMMARY:St. Dirt Elementary School @ The Tranzac
DESCRIPTION:St. Dirt Elementary School is a little big band; it’s a salon orchestra; it’s a cabaret pitband; it’s a New School concert band half-remembering old school psychedelics in a district West of Weimar and North of San Antonio. It is both public and private. It can swing like a Kollektief or shamble like a seaside sinfonia. St. Dirt Elementary School plays compositions: rubberband exotica\, bouncing like bamboo windchimes dangling from the hood of a springloaded pram
