SUMMARY:FERNANDA CUNHA at Jazz Bistro
DESCRIPTION:Brazilian singer Fernanda Cunha (based in Rio de janeiro)\, has been a regular performer in Canada since 2005. She has performed coast-to-coast-to-coast: from Vancouver Island and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival (several years)\, to the Alianait Arts Festival in Nunavut and Jazz Yukon series; from the Edmonton International Jazz Festival to the University of Toronto and other venues. She also has presented clinics/workshops at Mohawk College in Hamilton(Ontario) with Pat Collins trio and at Camthra Secondary School in Mississauga(Ontario)\, and a 1 week residency performing concerts at long-term care facilities as well as in local schools(kindergarten through secondary) in Qualicum Beach(BC) as part of the Harvest of Music Festival. \nIn 2009\, she explored the musical affinities between Canada and Brazil with her fourth album\, appropriately entitled “Brasil Canada” featuring songwriters and musicians from both countries. It’s no secret that\, although Brazil is Fernanda’s homeland and she performs at jazz festivals all over the world\, Canada is her heart´s country. \nFernanda has toured in the most important jazz festivals in the world such as Wien Jazz (Austria)\, Jazz a Juan (France)\, Jazz al fin (Argentina)\, Borneo Jazz (Malaysia)\, among others. Jobim (who would be 90 in 2017) left hundreds of wonderful tunes but Fernanda has chosen to record the songs he wrote melody and lyrics. Repertoire includes “waters of march”\, “samba do avião”\, “triste”\, “chovendo na roseira” and others less recorded like “Angela”\, “Passarim”\, “Ana Luiza” and the unique “Two kites”(written in English by Jobim) and here with arrangement of the Toronto guitarist Reg Schwager. \nIn 2018 Fernanda produced the CD of the composer Sueli Costa\, that was a live recording with her on some vocals plus another singer\, Aurea Martins \nIn 2019 Fernanda is releasing the CD “Fernanda Cunha canta Filó Machado”. Filó is a unique brazilian songwriter with a colourful repertoire. Fernanda features her band including Ze Carlos\, on guitar\, Camilla Dias on piano\, Berval Moraes no bass\, helbe Machado on drums and Reg Schwager.

SUMMARY:Alfredo Rodríguez & Pedrito Martinez
DESCRIPTION:Grammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez first worked together on Alfredo’s 2012 release Invasion Parade. Since that initial recording session they have had the rare occasion to perform together as a duo\, leaving audiences completely mesmerized by their fearless and virtuosic playing. \nEach artist brings a different approach to the collaboration. A protege of Quincy Jones\, who took him under his wing when he defected to the US in 2009\, Alfredo was schooled in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana. His riveting artistry is informed as much by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Afro Cuban and jazz roots. Pedrito’s musical training came directly from the streets of the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Old Havana in which he was raised and he has subsequently performed with artists such as Sting\, Paul Simon\, and Wynton Marsalis. \nTogether\, these two master musicians take listeners on a unique and exciting journey.

SUMMARY:'Coding Chaos' a TD Discovery Series Special Project.
DESCRIPTION:Spectrum Music presents “Coding Chaos”\, a TD Discovery Series Special Project. \nWhere will we be when what we create can create us? Technology continues to grow at an exponential rate as we discover new ways to improve our everyday lives – but at what point do we lose ourselves to a technology advanced far beyond our control? New music by Spectrum introduces a progressive collaboration of artificial intelligence in performance with an electric jazz trio featuring Snarky Puppy’s Larnell Lewis (drums)\, Bruce Cassidy (EVI)\, and Chris Pruden (keys)\, to push the boundaries of the digital experience in music. \nA pre-concert chat starting at 7:30pm with software artist Ryan Kelln will discuss AI’s stance in our society presently and going forward. In a digital world where technology constantly blurs the lines between fact and fabrication\, the Spectrum composers ask: will we lose our sense of identity and grasp on reality – or will technology give us room to grow? \nTickets:\nOnline – $25 gen /$15 student\nDoor – $30 gen /$20 student \nTo find out more\, visit www.spectrummusic.ca
