SUMMARY:St. Dirt Elementary School @ The Tranzac
DESCRIPTION:St. Dirt Elementary School is a little big band; it’s a salon orchestra; it’s a cabaret pitband; it’s a New School concert band half-remembering old school psychedelics in a district West of Weimar and North of San Antonio. It is both public and private. It can swing like a Kollektief or shamble like a seaside sinfonia. St. Dirt Elementary School plays compositions: rubberband exotica\, bouncing like bamboo windchimes dangling from the hood of a springloaded pram

SUMMARY:Tarragon Theatre: New Magic Valley Fun Town
DESCRIPTION:A new play from The Siminovitch Prize winner and Governor General’s Literary Award winner for drama. \nCape Bretoner Dougie hasn’t seen his best childhood pal Allan in twenty-five years\, so it’s no surprise that their reunion is a boisterous night of memories\, laughter\, drinking and dancing. But as evening becomes day\, as the smiles begin to fade and the bottles sit empty\, the old friends revisit other memories\, uncomfortable ones that force them to confront the realities of who — and what — they really are. \nAudience advisory: while full of comedic moments\, this play also touches on sensitive issues such as the aftermath of past trauma. \nRunning time: approximately 90 minutes\, no intermission

SUMMARY:Jazz Tribute to 1959: The Year That Changed Jazz
DESCRIPTION:ALL TICKETS FROM THIS SHOW WILL BE HONOURED AT THE RESCHEDULED PERFORMANCE: MONDAY\, FEB. 25\, 2019.\n\nJazz Tribute to 1959: The Year That Changed Jazz\nWith music director Colleen Allen \nDate: Monday\, Feb. 25\, 2019 \n1959 was arguably the most creative year in all of jazz history. Many of the contributions we now consider to be jazz classics all happened around the same time. Four of the major albums released in 1959 are Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue\, Charles Mingus’s Mingus Ah Um\, The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Time Out and John Coltrane’s Giant Steps. Explore these major jazz albums and contributions from 1959 during a special Sound of Jazz evening featuring music from the year that changed jazz.
