SUMMARY:Come From Away
DESCRIPTION:The global sensation Come From Away returns to the historic Royal Alexandra Theatre — where it all began with the pre-Broadway engagement and the record-breaking Canadian production that played for nearly three sold-out years (before the pandemic pre-emptively cut its run short). \nThis New York Times Critic’s Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7\,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high\, but uneasiness turned into trust\, music soared into the night\, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. \nDon’t miss this breathtaking musical written by Tony®-nominated Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein\, and featuring Tony®-winning direction by Christopher Ashley. Newsweek cheers\, “It takes you to a place you never want to leave!” \nOn 9/11\, the world stopped. \nOn 9/12\, their stories moved us all.

SUMMARY:The Hymns to Freedom Project with Jackie Richardson and The Rose Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:In the wake of ongoing struggles against racial injustice\, THE HYMNS TO FREEDOM PROJECT conveys hope and unity. Composer Corey Butler orchestrates a powerful docu-concert\, joined by The Rose Orchestra and celebrated artist Jackie Richardson. Interweaving Classical Music and Negro Spirituals\, the compositions echo the resilience of the human spirit. \nThrough music\, the project confronts the shadows of history\, juxtaposing tension and resolution against contemporary racial environments. Amidst discord\, the project serves as a timely reminder of enduring values—love\, respect\, and unity—and boldly asserts that love and unity triumph over hatred and division. Audiences will be both enchanted by the harmonies and challenged by the profound idea that we are better together.

In 2018 the group received not one\, but two Grammy Award nominations for two separate albums\, a first in the history of World Music. \nThese two nominations brought their career total to 19 Grammy Award nominations. One of these albums\, Shaka Zulu Revisited\, won Best World Music Album. This was the group’s fifth Grammy Award win\, the most for any World Music group. In 2019\, Ladysmith Black Mambazo collaborated for the third time with the famed Steppenwolf Theatre Company on a production entitled Lindiwe and released an album with songs from the show. \nLadysmith Black Mambazo has performed for millions of people\, singing a message of peace\, love and harmony. \n“It isn’t merely the grace and power of their dancing or the beauty of their singing that rivets the attention\, but the sheer joy and love that emanates from their being.” — Paul Simon
