DESCRIPTION:Harbourfront Centre’s highly anticipated return to live music is here\, and this year\, the Music Garden welcomes a new curator\, Gregory Oh. \nThe Summer Music in the Garden concerts take place most Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. at the Toronto Music Garden along the waterfront. It’s an exciting time for live music and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you back! \nThe 2022 season features multiple commissions by Harbourfront Centre. \n\nWaltzes\, Tangos and a Minuet: Bryan Cheng\n24-year-old cellist Bryan Cheng is fast-becoming internationally renowned\, having already won second prize and Audience Choice at the Geneva International Music Competition. His Toronto solo recital debut includes an energetic program that pays homage to the magical intersection of music\, dance\, and nature at the Toronto Music Garden. Through the voice of the prized ‘Bonjour’ Stradivarius cello from 1696 (on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank)\, Cheng will perform masterworks and rarely heard gems of the cello repertoire\, spanning four continents and three centuries. The program will culminate in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major\, the piece that inspired Yo-Yo Ma to create the Toronto Music Garden in 1999.

Featuring Dan Fortin (bass) and Ernesto Cervini (drums)\, the trio will perform a repertoire of curated original compositions and standard jazz classics. This unusual “chord-free” trio format allows the musicians to stretch out and roam free\, allowing flexibility that breathes new life into their interpretations.
