DESCRIPTION:Bassist Aretha Tillotson treats us to a special performance on Thursday\, August 28 at 8PM EST for the final concert in our 2025 Discover Women in Jazz concert series! \nAretha Tillotson is a Canadian bassist\, band leader and composer. Aretha has played across North America with Kris Davis\, Walter Smith III\, Francesca Remigi\, Allan Chase\, and Josh Rosen. In 2023\, she toured as a member of the Ingrid and Christine Jensen quintet. She released her debut album\, Introducing Aretha Tillotson (Bent River Records)\, and in 2024\, won a Western Canadian Music Award for Jazz Artist of the Year. The record was composed by interviewing intersectional women across arts disciplines about their experiences in arts institutions as part of Aretha’s masters thesis\, and features Allison Au. Her second album as a band leader\, Kinda Out West will be released on November 1\, 2025 with guest appearances from Ingrid and Christine Jensen and Dave Laing. \n📺Listen live on air or watch it live on the jazz.fm91 YouTube channel on Thursday\, August 7 at 8PM EST. \nThis season of Discover Women in Jazz is presented in partnership with the Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts with support from the Brian Facey and Julie Soloway Fund for the Arts. \nPlease note that this concert series is NOT open to the public.
