SUMMARY:Summer Music in the Garden: Spinning Antiquity
DESCRIPTION:Harbourfront Centre’s highly anticipated return to live music is here\, and this year\, the Music Garden welcomes a new curator\, Gregory Oh. \nThe Summer Music in the Garden concerts take place most Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. at the Toronto Music Garden along the waterfront. It’s an exciting time for live music and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you back! \nThe 2022 season features multiple commissions by Harbourfront Centre. \n\nSpinning Antiquity: Turkwaz\nFrom mysterious Sufi devotional love songs and Arabic verses to Turkish folk tunes and rousing Thracian dance music\, each of the four members of Turkwaz bring their own distinct vocals\, instruments and unique cultural experiences. The love and respect they have for the traditions they draw from are clear\, but they are not afraid to arrange songs in new and unexpected ways to give them a fresh spin.

SUMMARY:jazz.fm91 presents… Discover Women in Jazz: Debi Botos
DESCRIPTION:Debi Botos performs LIVE from the Long & McQuade Performance Hall at the jazz.fm91 studios on Aug. 18\, 2022\, as part of our Discover Women in Jazz concert series. \nFrom an early age\, Debi Botos has cultivated an interest in Hungarian Gypsy music\, from where she was born. Now 26\, as a self-taught musician\, Debi continues to explore and experiment with the sounds of the legendary Django Reinhardt. Through gigging around the Toronto circuit\, playing festivals and concert halls in the U.S. and growing up in a very musical Botos family\, she has found a sound that is both modern and an homage to the greats. She studied music at Humber College and has collaborated with some of the contemporary giants of the genre\, including Samson Schmitt\, Ludovic Beier and Stephane Wrembel.
