SUMMARY:Tarragon Theatre presents… Orphan Song
DESCRIPTION:“In a lightning strike of inspiration\, I claimed another child” \n40\,027 BCE (when the average human could count to five)\, a grief stricken Homo-Sapien couple adopts a Neanderthal child. But language separates parents and child only to then separate mother and father – how do we love when we can’t communicate? \nWith that\, a mythic journey of danger and sacrifice ensues to connect to the Neanderthals and to protect the child at all costs. \nA heroic tale of clashing cultures and how the bonds of family are truly formed. \nWritten by Sean Dixon\, directed by Richard Rose

SUMMARY:Tarragon Theatre presents… Three Women of Swatow
DESCRIPTION:“Swatow women are supposed to be fierce.” That’s what Grandmother tells her daughter. Grandmother’s a butcher and to her disappointment\, her daughter’s a vegetarian. But to her satisfaction\, her granddaughter killed her first chicken at the age of three. In this ferocious comedy\, the three generations of women grapple with their dark history\, emotional inheritance and the legacy of mothers’ life lessons and daughters’ love lives. \nChloé developed Three Women of Swatow while she was a part of the Tarragon Playwright’s Unit. She is also the recipient of the 2017 RBC Emerging Playwrights Award. The Globe and Mail called Chloé “a writer to watch.” As a screenwriter\, she was a finalist two consecutive years at the Fusion Film Festival. \nThree Women of Swatow is a new play which was set to begin previews at Tarragon on the same day the province went into lockdown.

SUMMARY:James Brown: Song Within the Story CD Release at Paradise Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist-composer James Brown returns from a 13-year recording hiatus with the fetching Song Within the Story. Brown’s fourth album\, and his first since 2009’s Sevendaze\, finds him helming his Toronto-based working trio featuring bassist Clark Johnston and drummer Anthony Michelli. Respected tenor saxophonist Mike Murley joins the band on three of the album’s 10 tracks—eight of which are original compositions that document Brown’s ongoing intermarriage of jazz and classical music\, while two covers explore Canada’s rich folk-rock legacy.
