DESCRIPTION:In less than five years\, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque has evolved from a project to support a new generation of young women in jazz into a Grammy-nominated\, critically acclaimed band that’s in high demand at major jazz festivals around the world. \nThis fall\, a day before the release of their new album On Firm Ground / Tierra Firme\, the all-female collective will be playing an intimate\, interactive concert for a small crowd at jazz.fm91 that will also be broadcast live to our radio audience. \nThe group is led by veteran Canadian saxophonist\, flutist and composer Jane Bunnett\, who has won five Juno Awards\, earned three Grammy nominations and been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Recently\, she has dedicated herself to bringing the Maqueue project to the world. Jane Bunnett and Maqueque have toured constantly throughout Canada as well as Colombia\, Brazil\, Cuba and Panama\, and have performed at major U.S. jazz festivals and venues including at Newport\, Monterey\, Saratoga\, Birdland and the Lincoln Center. \nWe’re offering jazz.fm91 donors a rare opportunity to see the group play a one-hour concert in the small\, intimate atmosphere of the Long & McQuade Performance Hall on Thursday\, Sept. 5\, as they kick off their new album. \nHow to attend\nInvitations to jazz.fm91’s Live to Air concerts are our gift to you for your donation of $150 for one seat or $300 for a pair.
