JAZZ.FM91 is excited to announce an exciting new show added to our weekend programming lineup.
Take Me to the Water is the latest show joining our lineup Sunday mornings starting December 15 at 7AM. The one-hour show explores gospel music and its connections with jazz and blues from the past to the present.
The show will be hosted by Jelani Watson, a saxophonist and pianist from Toronto and JAZZ.FM91’s Education and Outreach Officer. With over 16 years of experience on the saxophone ranging from school bands, to church bands, accompanying artists in genres including Afrobeat and R&B, leading performances for churches, weddings, galas and much more, Jelani seeks to bring the joy and healing of music to everyone who hears him play.
He has a love for gospel, jazz, R&B and soul music, and is passionate about composing, arranging, producing and audio engineering. He can also be found playing keys at churches weekly, teaching private lessons at Marsman Music School in Scarborough where he has taught since 2017, and frequenting jazz and neo-soul jam sessions around the city.
