Date: October 21st
Venue: The Toronto Centre for the Arts
Presented by the Jazz Performance and Education Centre, Harry Allen’s All Star New York Saxophone Band will take over the Toronto Centre for the Arts with the seven man band led by Harry Allen on October 21st.
UK’s Jazz Journal said “put forth a full, rounded sound on tenor that reflects the influence of an earlier generation of performers such as Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Buddy Tate, Paul Gonsalves, Lester Young and Scott Hamilton”.
This three tenor and one baritone saxophone section has a mellow yet exciting sound, which gained popularity with Woody Herman’s Four Brothers saxophone section. The swinging ensemble playing of a big band combined with individual solo styles of a small group make for an especially satisfying musical experience.
The All Star New York Saxophone Band features: Harry Allen, Vincent Herring, Grant Stewart – tenor saxophones and Gary Smulyan – baritone saxophone. Rhythm section includes Ehud Asherie – piano, Joel Forbes – bass and Kevin Kanner – drums. For more information and tickets, visit jazzcentre.ca
