American jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton announced his retirement on Friday.
On his website, Burton said, “I have been preparing for this for the past two years, gradually reducing my commitments and making the final decision for when to step back from my six decades of performing. Let’s just say, for health reasons, this is the right time to start a new chapter in my life.”
A final tour kicks off next month n D.C.. He’ll be joined on the road long-time collaborator and pianist Makoto Ozone. Ozone and Burton share an over 30-year partnership in music.
The pair are expected to makes stops in the United States’ east coast and midwest; revisiting places they’ve played together more.
