Twenty-year-old Hamilton native Devon Savas is an active bassist in the GTA region. After growing up in a musical household and taking an interest in the arts at a young age, Devon immersed himself in a handful of stylistic spectrum. He would take on a wide variety of instruments over the years; he would eventually devote himself to jazz music as a bass player, beginning in his high school years.
Currently, Devon is completing his final year of Applied Music studies at Mohawk College, where he has maintained a strong academic reputation. He plans to continue his educational pursuance next year at Humber College.
Devon has studied through private lessons, ensembles and one-off sessions with the likes of Pat Collins, Adrean Farrugia, Kevin Dempsey, Rob Santos, and Dan Loomis. He frequently collaborates and performs with a large assortment of local jazz musicians, acts as a core member for a selection of diverse local projects [GREY\\WATER, Subject ID, Brain Train], offers up his talents for a variety of session work [including numerous 2016-2017 Jazzology podcasts], and continues to write arrangements/original compositions on a regular basis.
Through his endeavours, Devon has been fortunate to perform at a wide variety of festivals, venues and events across Southern Ontario, including the South Coast Jazz Festival, the TD Brantford Jazz Festival, Gage Park, and the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. Devon also offers teaching services privately as a bass, guitar, drum and/or piano instructor.
