Celebrating Thelonious Monk’s Centennial

Happy Birthday Monk! Pianist, composer, mystic… there’s a jazz institute named for the man! There are several musical tributes lined up this week:

At the Jazz Bistro Tuesday night, it’s the Christopher Simmons Quartet. This very special night will be entirely devoted to the music of Thelonious Monk. Christopher Simmons – Piano, Mike Filice – Sax, Artie Roth – Bass and Anthony Michelli – Drums. The show starts at 9pm. www.jazzbistro.ca

And on Saturday night, its’ the return of Caliban At 20, The Theatre presenting a three part jazz project over the fall. Monk at 100 features The Michael Arthurs Quartet with Bernie Senensky on the keys.
