Master magician Darcy Oake speaks to Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore on his fantastic career, his appearance on “Britain’s Got Talent” and his thoughts on being the sole Canadian on the Mirvish stage in “The Illusionists: Live From Broadway.”
How much do you know about the world of magicians and illusionists? For most, it’s a world full of mystery checkered with colourful characters who have devoted their lives to accomplish things most of us couldn’t even dream of doing.
“The Illusionists Live from Broadway” is poised to be one of the biggest draws for live stage this holiday season, and for good reason. The flashy event features seven world class masters of magic including The Unusualist Raymond Crowe, The Eccentric Charlie Frye, The Manipulator An Ha Lim, The Daredevil Jonathan Goodwin, The Trickster Jeff Hobson, The Deductionist Colin Cloud, and The Canadian Grand Illusionist Darcy Oake; the wildly tattooed and affable magician who is the lone Canuck on the Toronto roster.
Darcy has paid his dues playing big rooms and small over his career, but a big break came when he appeared on the Network television’s “Britain’s Got Talent”. His incredible illusions went viral on Youtube following the original airing.
Darcy’s talents can be witnessed through January 7th on the Mirvish stage. He sat down with Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore to discuss his magical path, this glitzy show, and the culture of The Illusionist.
Darcy Oake performs alongside a selection of the greatest magic talents on the planet in “The Illusionists: Live from Broadway” at the Princess of Wales Theatre through January 7th 2018. Click here for tickets.
