Brush With Greatness - Jim Peters

    Wednesday, 05 April 2017 10:03

This week we hear from listener Jim Peters:

"I grew up in Montréal in the sixties and seventies. My dad had a college band that performed around the area in the late forties and early fifties. They called the band the Blue Serenaders. My dad was the tenorman. I recall Chuck Hicks as the trombone player. I don't know if any of them went on to become pros. I know my dad gave it up to support the family, he did very well...

Now ... on to the Brush with Greatness story:

There used to be a great joint in Montréal, called In Concert. I went to see Dizzy there a long time ago, and as I was leaving the house, my father asked me to say hi to Dizzy for him. My dad don't know Dizzy, but he played tenor, and he did have a band back in his day. So, I went up to Dizzy at the break, said "My dad says hello", and shook his hand. Dizzy asked who my dad was, and I said, "You don't know him, but he wishes you well!"
