His artistic history is so rich and intense that his originality radiates through all of his collaborations and work, Franco D’Andrea is featured at the JAZZ.FM91 Sounds of Italy Concert Series!

A poet with his instrument, rooted in the tradition of Afro-American music, his rhythmic ramblings are detailed with insistent riffs, quotes and authenticity.  D’Andrea has performed with numerous musicians, toured around the world, collaborated with the Scuolva Civica di Musica in Milan, as part of the Civic Jazz course.  With more than 200 recordings in Italy and abroad, within all of his work is a continual tension and dialectic between innovation and tradition.

Performing in many international festivals, he has opened for the Wayne Shorter Quartet and the Mike Stern Band.  Mezza has also performed in a trio with Toronto’s own George Koller and Ben Riley, and this past October, he released Naples Jazz Songs recorded here in Toronto.
