    As International Jazz Day approaches at the end of April, JAZZ.FM91 is sharing a list of some of the more local events being celebrated in and around the Greater Toronto Area.

    Steven Taetz & Joanna Majoko at Jazz Bistro – Ella's 100th Birthday Brunch

    Steven Taetz & Joanna Majoko celebrate Ella Fitgerald’s 100th Birthday with a special brunch at Jazz Bistro (Toronto), along with Ewen Farncombe (keys), Soren Nissen (bass), and Eric West (drums). Join them to celebrate the Queen of Swing with a broad collection of swing standards and new arrangements. Click here for more information.

    120 Diner Celebrates International Jazz Day

    Crooner Sam Broverman will perform songs from his acclaimed recording tributes to Mercer, Van Heusen & Burke and others. Also, Bobby Hsu is one of Toronto’s go-to authorities on less-performed songs from Broadway and the American Songbook. Hear songs-that-got-away, introduced with Bobby’s insights and performed in classic Manhattan cabaret style. Click here for more information.

    International Jazz Day Peterborough

    Peterborough, a small town in Ontario, Canada, will be celebrating again this year. Saturday night, April 29, enjoy “Dine with Jazz,” with four restaurants, each with a jazz duo. Later that evening, there will be a public showing of “Straight, No Chaser,” Clint Eastwood’s film about Thelonious Monk.

    On Sunday, April 30 – an evening concert, paying tribute to Thelonious Monk.

    David Hollingshead + Isaiah Farahbakhsh

    In Guelph, listen to David Hollingshead, a classically trained jazz and contemporary pianist. David studied piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music and later received his diploma from Mohawk College under guidance from acclaimed pianist, Adrean Farrugia and bassist, Pat Collins. Isaiah Farahbakhsh is a cellist who traces his roots to both classical and jazz traditions, most recently studying with the internationally acclaimed, Matt Brubeck. Click here for more information.
