    Tommy LiPuma (1936-2017)

    Five-time Grammy Award-winning producer and record executive Tommy LiPuma has passed away at the age of 80-years-old.

    The music veteran worked with a number of headliners, like Natalie Cole, Al Jarreau, Paul McCartney and Miles Davis.

    Born in Cleveland, he studied saxophone, and eventually found himself working a record-packer at a industry warehouse. By the early 60s, he was working as a promotional representative for Liberty Records, which later would become Imperial Records.

    By the mid 60s, he had produced a number of Top 40 hits, including "Guantanamera" for the Sandpipers and  "The More I See You" for Chris Montez.

    LiPuma's career spanned more than five decades, playing as a key member in the jass world, as well. Notably, his careers with Diana Krall while working for GRP and Verve Records.  When I Look In Your Eyes went on to sell 2 million copies and was nominated for Album of the Year; The Look of Love debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard's Albums chart, selling over 4 million copies globally; and Live in Paris earned him is third Grammy. 

    LiPuma's last collaboration was also with Krall, her 13th album called Turn Up the Quiet, which will be released on May 5.
