Historical Jazz Walking Tour at MTL Jazz Fest

A new feature of this year's Montreal Jazz Festival will be a walking tour that traces the history of jazz in Montreal.

As part of the Burgundy Jazz Project, L'autre Montreal and Catbird Productions have teamed together to offer a unique walking tour during the Montreal Jazz Fest. An enthusiastic guide will share anecdotes, stories and historical photographs with Montrealers and visitors alike - June 28th, 29th, 30th and July 1st, 5th, 6th and 7th.

Concord to Release Riverside Remasters

Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Riverside Records, the Concord Music Group has announced the pending release of five new albums in its Original Jazz Classics Remasters series.

Founded by Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer in 1953, the label was home to some of the biggest names in jazz until going belly up in 1963.

JAZZ.FM91 WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL

JAZZ.FM91 announced the first annual JAZZ.FM91 World Music Festival with 5 concerts running from Tuesday, August 6, 2013 to Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Hugh’s Room. The festival showcases jazz fusion from around the world featuring an eclectic mix of international and local jazz artists.

Johnny Smith (1922-2013)

"Walk Don't Run" composer, guitarist Johnny Smith, has passed away at the age of 90.

Starting his career in the 40s, Smith worked his way to the top of the New York music scene, working with the NBC Studio Orchestra and as a classical soloist. Smith also had a great love of jazz and decided to dedicate himself to the genre in the early 1950s.
