This Sunday from 8-9am, it’s a special International Jazz Day Edition of Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on Jazz FM 91

This episode:

Jazz legend John Coltrane gets the cinematic treatment thanks to Director John Scheinfeld. The master documentarian continues his long lineage of jazz inspired titles with ‘Chasing Trane’. The film traces his musical genius, his struggles with his demons, and his spiritual path. It features interviews from Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis, Santana, President Bill Clinton and a voice-over from Denzel Washington. Mark Wigmore spoke to John last September at the films international premiere at TIFF. The film opens at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema on Friday May 12th.

And Garvia Bailey continues her stellar new series “Giant Steps”. This episode features the history of the saxophone and some of the musicians who have pushed the instrument to greatness.

And Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the most important painters of the 20th Century. From her sensual flower subjects, to her later desert scenes, a new career-spanning exhibit at the AGO shares her genius. Mark Wigmore speaks to Curator Georgiana Uhlyarik about the staggering new Georgia O'Keefe exhibition on now at the AGO.

All that, and beautiful jazz for a Sunday morning. Catch the show from 8-9am on Sunday or online at
